Programme:

Danny Mills got United's winner with a left-footed shot in the fifty-second minute but almost gifted Barnsley a last minute equalizer. He lost possession to Leo Bertos, but fortunately in-form keeper Paul Robinson came to United's rescue when he spread himself well to deny the home team an equalizer. There was not as many substitutions as there had been on the Far-East Tour, with two coming in the sixty-second minute when Seth Johnson was given a chance to impress with his first appearance of the season after a long lay-off from injury, and he replaced Olivier Dacourt in midfield, while Jason Wilcox was given his chance in midfield at the expense of Alan Smith. Six minutes later Lucas Radebe took over in defence and as captain from Dominic Matteo. Frazer Richardson and Danny Milosevic remained unused on the Leeds bench.
